OmniScale, to industrialize FinOps at scale

Targets, fundamentals, KPIs, governance and automation, applied with accountable users and decisions driven by numbers. The method serves the three offers and adapts to each organization's starting point: migration, low maturity, merger, fragmented tooling.

Four phases

From alignment to continuous improvement

A

Diagnose & Align

Review of the current state: governance, operating model, processes, technical and purchasing optimizations, data quality. Deliverables: as-is map, gap analysis, quick wins identified.

B

Target & Roadmap

FinOps targets (budgets, forecasting, allocation, optimization) and a sequenced roadmap. Deliverables: target operating model, 12 to 18-month roadmap, target KPIs.

C

Enable @Scale

Standards and rules, KPIs, RACI, tooling, onboarding by persona, execution of optimizations with the teams. Deliverables: standards deployed, operational tooling, trained teams, savings delivered.

D

Evolve Continuously

Iterations, prioritization of quick wins, adoption tracking, adaptation of the fundamentals. Deliverables: rituals in place, KPIs tracked, prioritized backlog.

Eight operational steps

The cycle that structures deployment and secures adoption

1

Set targets and roadmap

FinOps objectives aligned with business and executive needs, action plan.

2

Define the fundamentals

Rules, best practices and thresholds for each FinOps practice.

3

Instrument the KPIs

One KPI per fundamental, measured per team, to track implementation.

4

Install governance and RACI

Roles and responsibilities, language suited to non-technical people, governance bodies.

5

Automate the tooling

Dashboards, alerts, KPI steering and communication.

6

Onboard by persona

Executives, finance, product, operations, FinOps: each with their views and responsibilities.

7

Support and coach

Targeted support so that execution happens everywhere, not only at the center.

8

Track adoption and remove blockers

Regular monitoring, detection of blockers, adjustments.

Fundamentals

Four non-negotiable principles

No data quality, no optimization

If tagging, allocation or billing are not reliable, we fix them first; a saving computed on wrong data does not exist.

Quick wins first

Prioritize by impact and feasibility to create value fast and make the approach credible with the teams.

Accountable users

Application, product, finance and operations owners carry the decisions; not an isolated central FinOps.

Plan, change, measure

Every validated optimization becomes a change or a ticket, executed then measured: real gain versus estimated gain.

Operating model

A persona-driven model

PersonaFocusKPIs tracked
ExecutivesStrategic visionTotal cost versus budget, yearly trend, return on optimizations
FinOpsOperational steeringTag coverage, forecast reliability, backlog velocity
Engineering and operationsTechnical executionRight-sizing actions, waste eliminated, Start & Stop compliance
Business and productCost per productUnit cost, monthly showback, anomalies detected
Finance and procurementBudget governanceBudget adherence, commitment utilization, savings realized
Execution flow

From design to the measurement of real gains

1

FinOps by design

Standards built in before provisioning.

2

Tagging policy

Allocation and cost traceability.

3

Showback

Visibility for every owner.

4

Analysis

Detection of optimizations by the engine.

5

KPIs

Performance measurement per team.

6

Change requests

Validation and prioritization.

7

Execution

Implementation by the teams or the partner.

8

Gain measurement

Real versus estimated, on the next invoice.

360 extension

The same model beyond public cloud

OmniScale 360 extends FinOps governance, KPIs and rituals to the whole IT estate: hybrid and legacy (VMware, Hyper-V, OpenShift, mainframe, LPAR), multi-cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, sovereign clouds) and financial and contractual disciplines (software asset management, licenses, vendors, IT procurement, contracts).
  • Same governance, same KPIs, same rituals: allocation, showback and chargeback, forecasting, optimization and contract steering
  • Typical case: full cost model and allocation by application of an on-premises estate, objectively compared with cloud (baseline, target, optimization scenarios)
  • Center of excellence functions: invoice processing, showback, chargeback, forecasting and budget, optimization desk, tooling and automation
Examples of dashboards put in place: tagging compliance, production versus non-production, spend identified for allocation, top ten applications, wins and next wins by service, forecast reliability.
